The Brilliance of Hue

The fall, late in its arrival,

strives to hold on to an age long since

removed.

Four months from summer’s beginning

autumn has yet to show color;

lost in the withered greenery of a season past its time.

Is this a sign of youth?

Or of summer trying to place itself

in a misbegotten way?

One must wonder whether these green leaves,

lost in early reverie,

will ever reveal their brilliant hue

by growing old.

(F. Sengmeuller).

“That’s beautiful,” said Sarah. “She must have been a very talented person, to do great science and then write beautiful poetry.”

“Not all scientists show an artistic side. She clearly had some Leonardo da Vinci in her,” said Jesus.

“Who’s Leonardo?” asked Sarah.

Jason piped up, “He’s the famous painter who drew the Mona Lisa.”

Jesus used his NIT to project an image of that painting, which Sarah instantly recognized.

“He wasn’t just an artist?” she asked.

“No,” said Jesus, “He was as much a scientist as an artist.”

With that, Ximena asked Sarah and Jason if they could move outside and explore the creek area for a couple of hours. She explained that two other guests were coming to the house, and Jesus and she needed privacy for that meeting. Though Jason had already been told by Tavon about Ximena’s real father coming to visit, he pretended he was unaware and agreed to go exploring with his sister.

Ximena was fighting to quell her nerves. Tavon Brooks and her father were on their way.
